Signed by Formula 1, the FIA and all 11 teams, the new Concorde Agreement lays the foundations for the sport’s next chapter.
Formula 1 has locked in one of the most decisive pillars of its future. Formula 1, the FIA and all eleven teams have officially signed the 2026 Concorde Governance Agreement, completing the ninth Concorde Agreement in the championship’s history and setting the regulatory, commercial and governance foundations of the sport through to 2030.
The announcement follows March’s confirmation that the Commercial Concorde Agreement had been signed by all parties, meaning the full Concorde framework is now in place. Together, these agreements define how Formula 1 is governed, regulated and commercially structured, marking a major step forward in the professionalization and global development of the championship as it prepares to enter a new technical era in 2026, featuring innovative car and power unit (hybrid systems combining internal combustion and electrical energy) regulations.
Crucially, the agreement ensures full alignment between Formula 1 as commercial rights holder, the FIA as the governing body, and the teams, creating a stable platform for the next five years of growth. That stability comes at a time when the sport is enjoying record viewership, an increasingly diverse and dynamic calendar, and rapidly growing engagement among younger audiences.
From an operational standpoint, the Concorde Agreement carries significant weight. It enables the FIA to further invest in race regulation, race direction, stewarding (sporting oversight and decision-making) and technical expertise, strengthening consistency, fairness and sporting integrity across the championship. All of this is achieved within a clear and structured regulatory framework that gives confidence to teams, manufacturers, partners and promoters alike.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali described the signing as a milestone moment, stating that “today is an important day for Formula 1”. Speaking as the sport celebrates its 75th anniversary, Domenicali emphasized that the agreement ensures Formula 1 is “in the best possible position to continue to grow around the world”, while thanking FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and the teams for their collaboration and shared determination.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem echoed that sentiment, highlighting the long-term significance of the deal. “The ninth Concorde Agreement secures the FIA Formula One World Championship’s future,” he said, noting that it provides a framework grounded in fairness, stability and shared ambition. He added that it will support the ongoing modernization of regulatory, technological and operational capabilities, including backing race officials and the vast volunteer network that underpins every Grand Prix. “We are ensuring that Formula 1 remains at the forefront of technological innovation and sets new standards in global sport,” Ben Sulayem concluded.
Beyond contracts and clauses, the message is unmistakable. Formula 1 enters its 2026 era united, structured and confident, with a governance framework designed to support innovation, competition and sustainable growth. In a sport defined by milliseconds on track, the Concorde Agreement remains the quiet but essential engine powering everything that happens beyond the checkered flag.
