McLaren has unveiled a one-off livery (a bespoke visual design and color scheme created for a single, specific occasion) for the Barcelona shakedown (an initial run aimed at verifying the car’s core systems), marking the first major collective step toward the 2026 Formula 1 season.
The shakedown will take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from January 26 to 30, across a five-day window in which each team is permitted to run for three days, providing a controlled environment to introduce the new-generation cars under the revised technical regulations.
McLaren’s unchanged driver lineup of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will handle the team’s first on-track running of 2026, debuting the special livery designed exclusively for this early development phase.
The reigning World Champions had already signaled that they would not rush their new challenger onto the track. Instead, the team has chosen to delay its first appearance until day two or three, aiming to maximize the available time for continued technical development before committing to more extensive running.
The move underlines a measured and deliberate approach, with McLaren prioritizing system validation, fine-tuning of the 2026 package, and technical preparation over immediate mileage, at a stage where every testing day carries heightened importance ahead of Formula 1’s new era.
